![]() In the mid to late 1980s, the great sports car marques kicked off some kind of competition for the most spectacular supercar: Ferrari presented the 288 GTO and the F40, Porsche had their 959 and the resurrected company Bugatti launched the EB 110. The traditional British marque Jaguar didn`t want to stay out of this prestigious competition: Based on the 3.5 litres V6 used in Jaguar`s XJR 10 and XJR 11 group C racecars, Tom Walkinshaw`s JaguarSport Ltd. of Banbury, Oxon developed the spectacular XJ 220 project. ![]() The result was an outstanding 211.9 mph-sportscar with fabulous performance and looks that are still thrilling nowadays and by no means outdated. The car was launched in 1992, the first examples were supplied to customers in 1993, the price tag read 290.000 Euro (then about 450.000 Euro). Of the about 275 XJ 220s produced between 1992 and 1994, around 50 weren`t delivered to customers, but remained undriven in storage with Jaguar. Many of these cars were later supplied to various European importers and dealers to be sold off. Basically new XJ 220s were quietly sold via Jaguar`s dealer network through 1999. Our XJ 220 is one of these examples, having been sold to the first owner in 1998. History of this Motorcar: The Jaguar XJ 220 with serial number SAJJEAEX8AX220722 was supplied new on January 14, 1994 to Jaguar Italia SpA. of Rome, the official Italian importer. Its color combination is the probably most desired one for this car: metallic silver with grey leather interior. It is one of the last units produced, the customer deposit number being 285. ![]() Our car is one of the XJ 220s which were kept in storage as a new car with Jaguar Italia. In 1998, the sports car was sold via a Jaguar agent of Milan to the first owner, a German collector of supercars resident in Huettenberg near Giessen, who had registered the silver XJ 220 on German plate LDK-XJ 220. Despite of having registered the car, the gentleman kept it unused in his collection since he owned another XJ 220 that had covered several thousand kilometres already. About one year after, the German collector resold his silver XJ 220 to Italy. The buyer, a Milan based company named IBIESSE, in turn sold the car to the second owner, a resident of Treviso. This gentleman had the car registered in the name of a company, Assi Service Srl. of Treviso. The Italian plate read BH 861 JW. The second owner covered about 1.500 kilometres in the car prior to entering it in the Bonhams & Brooks auction in Monaco on May 12, 2001. The recorded mileage at the time of the sale was 1.565 kms. Our XJ 220 changed hands for 167.421 USD(then about 190.000 Euro), going to one of our customers who owns homes in the south of France and in Denmark. The new owner drove the car from Monaco to Denmark. In October of 2001, he had a big service performed in excess of about 16.000 Euro. The car was entrusted to Jaguar Denmark, but then shipped back to the factory in England for service. We now offer this lovely and like new example with 4.250 kilometres on the clock. All the books and original documents come with the car. The car still has Italian paperwork.
